Broad
background to our club
The Austin
Healey Owners Club was formed in 1967 by a group of Healey enthusiasts with the
objectives of the maintenance, preservation and enjoyment of the marque.
In the early 1990's, club premises were purchased to act as a permanent base
for members. The club is licensed and contains all facilities for a wide
range of functions.
All owners
and ex-owners of Big Healey's are welcomed as Members, and more recently in
November 2005, membership has been opened to owners of Austin Healey Sprites
and any vehicle bearing the Healey name. Details are contained in our Membership Application
form.
Club
members own cars in a variety of conditions, from those requiring total
restoration, through those that are used regularly on road and track, to cars
used less frequently that are in excellent and Concours condition. Many
members possess specialist skills and are willing to assist the less experienced
in restoration projects. In addition, club members are often associated
with businesses in all aspects of the vehicle industry, including Healey
specialists.
The club
has a member base with many interests ranging from full-on circuit racing and
Targa Tasmania participation, through regularity trials, marque sports car
racing and hill climbs to navigation rallies and social driving.
Members
also enjoy a broad spectrum of outside interests many of which can be combined
with club activities. Recently these have included country horse racing
meetings, visits to National Trust properties, wineries and eateries, for both
breakfast and lunch. Naturally driving to and from the event is part of
the entertainment.
Socialising
is not forgotten, with one or two major evening functions each year, with a
number of smaller gatherings at member's houses. Nationally, a Healey
Rally is held every year, currently over Easter. Details of the next National
Rally can be found in our magazine or elsewhere in this website.
The
monthly magazine, Hundreds & Thousands, contains information on future
events, stories from past events, articles of interest and advertisements for
cars and spare parts. The club meets at 8:00pm on the first Thursday of each
month, from February to December, with guest speakers, videos and technical
discussions, in our clubrooms at 19-23 Rosalie Street Springvale.
